AS Communications UK Ltd. provides GPS, guidance and precision agriculture solutions to farmers and growers in the southern half of the United Kingdom.

The company was started back in 1989 by William Mumford in recognition of the fact that the industry would benefit from expert knowledge in the fields of modern electronics and communication techniques.

Following a visit to Massey Ferguson’s combine plant (Dronningborg, Denmark) in 1995, William received a request from Mark Moore and Jim Potter (both AGCO) to assist with the installation of Global Positioning System (GPS) base stations required for their new FieldStar yield mapping system. As a result, many base stations were installed across the country facilitating the first wide-scale use of yield mapping in the UK.

In early 2003, AS Communications (UK) Ltd. was approached by the Agricultural Division of Trimble Navigation with an offer to become one of only two official Trimble resellers in the UK; AS Communications was successful in selling the first Trimble Autopilot system in Europe later that same year.

AS Communications continues to be central in increasing the lead market share held by Trimble in the UK. It has also gained a number of other suppliers to further extend the range of equipment offered; including Pacific Crest, Dickey-john and Dakota Micro. Our dedicated workforce continues to bring our customers the best equipment and product support available. Assisted by the dedication of our suppliers, our commitment to UK agriculture is unfaltering. Here are the team who work to bring this outstanding and unrivalled service to you.

Meet the Team

  • William Mumford

    Profile picture

    Managing Director

As the founder of the AS Communications, Will has worked in this sector for over twenty years. He leads the company, steering its direction, and sourcing new dealerships and products to add to the current line up. He draws on a wealth of experience in agriculture: both “on the ground” running of a modern and diverse farm, alongside servicing and engineering work ranging from two-way radio repairs to yield mapping support on combines for Massey Ferguson. He has an NCA, City and Guilds certification in Electronics and Radio, and above all, a passion for precision agriculture equipment and the benefits it can bring.

  • Lee Clarke

    Profile picture

    Operations Manager

Based close to the office, Lee is in charge of the day-to-day organisation of AS Communications, deciding who should be where and when they ought to be there. He is responsible for ensuring that work is completed in a timely manner, that support issues are dealt with, and problems solved as soon as possible. Lee also covers sales and support enquiries for the northern half of our territory and enjoys meeting customers. His twenty years of experience in agriculture enables him to recognise the needs of our customers and he can then successfully explain how we can help them with our products and services.

  • Richard Tattershall

    Profile picture

    Sales Support Engineer

Richard is responsible for sales and support enquiries in the southern half of our territory, although he can often be found much further afield. He is also our software expert and the first person to turn to when we have enquiries with products such as FarmWorks and EZ-View. Always extremely eager to please, Richard enjoys a good network of local dealers who he can trust to be the first point of contact for customers, backing them up and offering further support and guidance where necessary. He has worked in agriculture for many years, and has plenty of tales to tell about his wide experiences and insights!

  • Pete Goldsmith

    Profile picture

    Installation Engineer

Pete is one of our longest-serving employees, having joined the company in 2003. Pete carries out most of the installations, specialising in hydraulics and flow control systems. He also fabricates the brackets we produce in our own on-site workshop. He has a huge practical background of experience on which to draw. Having spent most of his career prior to AS Communications (UK) Ltd. working on various farms as both a driver and a fitter, he is able to understand what is required of installations and continually strives to improve the reliability and robustness of the systems we provide.

  • Will Holland

    Profile picture

    Installation & Support Engineer

Working alongside Pete for much of the time, Will covers the electronic and computer based aspects of the installations we carry out. He enjoys the practical side of making new systems perform correctly, and adapting them to specific customer requirements. Will is intrigued by how things work, and how they can be improved or used in new and innovative ways. He likes to disassemble things, finding out exactly what is inside, and nine times out of ten he can put them back together again! With an array of experience in computers and electronic hardware, and a degree covering satellite imaging and Geographic Information System techniques, Will has also spent many years farming, so knows what is required by the agricultural industry and ways of integrating our products with existing systems.

  • Ben Jeffs

    Profile picture

    Administration Executive

Ben’s time is based in the office at Agden Green Farm. He is in charge of the administrative aspects involved with running AS Communications. Ben is the first person you are likely to speak to if you phone into the office, and he will either deal with your enquiry directly or get in touch with the relevant person if he is unable to do so. Most EZ-Product enquiries, demos and sales are organised by Ben and his experience of these items is continually expanding in order to resolve issues quicker and ensure that customers are getting the most out of their products. Ben comes from a farming background, but decided to pursue a more administrative role in the sector, bringing much needed organisation and a first point of contact to the company.

  • Ross Macdonald

    Profile picture

    Sales Support Engineer

Ross is our Sales Support Engineer for the eastern region. He joined us with a wealth of farming knowledge, gained from his extensive travels throughout the world, and his years spent working on a large Cambridgeshire estate. Ross is able to arrange demonstrations of our products for you and is happy to explain the benefits of our systems. He is particularly interested in RTK networks and full autopilot systems, but is equally competent when discussing much simpler manual guidance solutions.

  • Joy Maddison

    Profile picture

    Accounts Executive

Joy is in charge of all financial matters associated with the running of AS Communications (UK) Ltd. She has worked with Will Mumford for many years and has a multitude of qualifications in accountancy and administration. Joy is also kind enough to provide the catering for many of the open events that we run throughout the year, and has recently gained certification in food handling and hygiene. Joy often answers the phone when Ben is unavailable, and is always friendly and happy to help out in any way she can.

  • Peter Mumford

    Profile picture

    Sales Support Engineer

Peter joins us from a long-serving background in agriculture. Having driven tractors and sprayers equipped with GPS and auto-steer for several years, he fully appreciates the benefits and savings that the equipments can bring – not only to the operator, but also to the manager. Peter is keen to learn all aspects of our systems but will be focussing on the sales, fitting and aftercare support. He aims to bring fresh knowledge and ideas to the company and his customers.
